GPS for Mariners

This class is an introduction to the use of the Global Positioning System for Mariners.  In this class you will learn how to mark and create waypoints, routes and proximity alarms along with a general knowledge of your units primary functions and capabilities. 

 

 

Boating Knowledge Series

Our staff of knowledgeable instructors are equipped to give your club or organization anything from a short presentation on any of a wide variety of boating related topics to a complete Boating Safety Course.  These classes may be conducted at the Water Safety Center in Lake Havasu or be presented at your location.   Our current offerings are:

  • Reading the River ( Natural Aids to Navigation )

  • Lighted Aids to Navigation ( Windsor Beach to Parker Dam )

  • Marlinespike Seamanship ( Useful knots for boaters )

  • Waterway Watch ( Neighborhood Watch program for boaters )

  • Trailering Your Boat ( Safely launching and towing your boat )

  • Introduction to GPS ( Basic GPS Navigation )

  • Boating Laws ( Equipment and Legal Requirements for boaters )

  • Lighthouses of Lake Havasu

  • Environmental & Ecological Concerns for Boaters

  • Docking & Anchoring

  • Weather on Lake Havasu 

  • Marine Radio ( including new DSC information )

  • Storing your boat

  • Boating Safety Class ( 8-hour Certification )

  • Boating Safety & Seamanship (13-lesson Certification)

The above classes are offered at little or no charge to the boating public as a service of the Coast Guard Auxiliary here in Lake Havasu.

 

Campfire Programs

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lake Havasu Flotilla 92 in association with Arizona State Parks is presenting a series of campfire programs to be presented at both the Windsor Beach and the Cattail Cove State Park campgrounds.  

 

Boating Safety Classes

Regularly scheduled Boating Safety classes are conducted by Arizona State Parks at the Water Safety Center located at 1801 Hwy 95 in Lake Havasu City. Contact Mia LaBarbara at (928) 855-7961 for class dates and additional information.
